Here’s what you can expect:
- Ideas are a dime a dozen, so we’ll assess your action steps and execution plans so you know when to pause and when to pounce to make big things happen.
- There’s no time to get tripped up, so we’ll reveal powerful time management techniques and we’ll bust the real fears that may be preventing you from tackling all you want.
- Standing out among the cluttered masses is key, so we’ll plot branding, social media, marketing and traditional PR strategies that actually work to get you noticed by the right people.
- This isn’t a hobby, so we’ll talk openly about money—from readily available funding sources to pricing for profit to sales techniques that are anything but sleazy.
- Going it alone sucks, so we’ll introduce you to the best group of BBFs—business best friends—the people who’ll hold you accountable and fuel your success.

BRANDING
Kari Erickson-Valenzuela, creator of Mama K’s Aromatic Play Clay
Kari Erickson-Valenzuela, aka Mama K, created her unique scented play clay for use with her own active three-year-old, Olimpia. Avoiding the artificial ingredients and cloying fruit and soda scents seen frequently marketed to children, she came up with a product that inspires focus and creates a calming atmosphere, all while encouraging creativity. A former audio engineer turned mother, she became an “accidental entrepreneur’” in 2009 when she began offering her hand-made Aromatic Play Clay to stores in the Seattle area and online through her Etsy.com storefront. Kari was the recipient of a prestigious 2010 Women Owned Business grant from Eileen Fisher.
- Five fitting words: “Industrious. Adventurous. Relaxed. Creative. Even-keeled (geez, brag much? can those all be true?)”
- When the going gets tough, I: “Sleep! Making sure to get enough rest is paramount for me. If I am not well rested and fed, nothing gets done. It seems counter-intuitive for a busy person, but really the amount of things you can accomplish doubles or triples if you are rested and not manic.”
- Little known fact: “I come from a huge family. I’m the baby of 10 children. 5 boys and 5 girls. They used to call me ‘the caboose’!”
Paige Clark, founder of MOGO Design
Paige Clark is an attorney/CPA/designer who combined her business and creative skills to found MOGO Design in 2009. Paige patented the MOGO technology and as President and CEO is involved in all creative and management aspects of MOGO. Her design motto: Love it yourself BUT test it out with your target market too!
- I almost threw in the towel when: “My first set of samples came back rusty and falling apart.”
- Five fitting words: “Tenacious, audacious, courageous, trusting and hopeful.”
- When the going gets tough, I: “Cry for 10 seconds and then charge ahead.”
- The most daring thing I’ve ever done: “Rock climb in the desert of Mexico with a Mexican cowboy”

MUSCLE MARKETING
Kathy Nelson, founder of Ovaleye Cloud Services
Ovaleye was founded in 2006 by Tracy and Kathy Nelson after many years of building and hosting their own business websites. The husband and wife team decided early on that in addition to offering innovative solutions, superior service and quality results, the foundation of Ovaleye should be based on their passion for the home office lifestyle and the online services needed to provide that.
- I almost threw in the towel when: “In 2008 my original business model became overwhelming. We started Ovaleye as a project based web company with hosting included. I worked with many design partners and it was my job to manage everything, which often meant I would travel to many of my clients’ home offices and stores to give them support. At the end of the day I felt like I was working the hardest and getting paid the least. I was exhausted; this clearly wasn’t scalable. In 2010 the decision was made to refocus the business on hosting and Ovaleye Cloud Services was launched.
- The most daring thing I’ve ever done: “I married my high school sweetheart 2 months after I turned 18. 30 years later we are still happily married!
- Little known fact: “I was the manager of a Seattle rock band from 2000 to 2004. For the years our children were in high school, my husband and I spent weekends traveling with 5 band members and their groupies. We even created a record label and financed a CD.
Jenn Blake, founder of Scout Vintage Rental Co.
Jenn Blake launched Scout Vintage Rental Co. as a means of providing one-of-a-kind vintage props & furniture rentals to the uber creative in Seattle, WA. She also offers styling, design and scouting services as a means to assist her clients in creating events, photoshoots & celebrations reflective of them and their vision for their big day.
- I almost threw in the towel when: “I realized how difficult it would be to actually pay myself. The overhead costs of running a rental company sometimes make me wonder why I’m doing what I’m doing.”
- When the going gets tough: “I lean on my husband and best friend for advice & support. Wine & frozen yogurt help too.”
SALES AND SCALE
Sari Crevin, founder of BooginHead, www.booginhead.com
Sari Crevin started BooginHead in 2007 when she was working full time at Microsoft as an HR Manager in the X-Box group. She diligently built the company to a million dollar business with multiple product lines and distribution in stores such as Babies “R” Us, Bed Bath and Beyond and Amazon.com. In 2010 she left Microsoft to pursue BooginHead full time and within a year had hired employees, secured distribution in Wal-Mart and launched several other product lines.
- I almost threw in the towel when: “Playtex contacted me to tell me I was infringing on their trademark for the word Binky.”
- The most daring thing I’ve ever done: “Bought a one way ticket to Europe when I was 24 and spent almost a year working and traveling through Europe on my own.”
- Little known fact: “I was deathly afraid of dogs until I was almost 30.”
Jessica Campbell, Esthetician and owner of Spa Scotta, Day Spa and Chic Boutique
Jessica Campbell is the owner of Spa Scotta as well as an educator, esthetician and makeup artist. She was named one of the top waxers in the US by Allure magazine in 2010. Helping others avoid the pitfalls and hard lessons that she has had to learn along the way is a passion of Jessica’s.
- Five fitting words: “Loyal, witty, bright, curious, tenacious.”
- When the going gets tough, I: “Rely on my friends and family for moral support…and go shopping.”
- Little known fact: “I performed in a burlesque show.”
OVERCOMING FEARS AND BUILDING CONFIDENCE
Leanne Pardo, creator of One Hour Parties / Party Markers

Leanne was the recipient of Seattle Business Top 25 Innovators & Entrepreneurs and has appeared as a lifestyle expert on Fox & Friends, WGN-TV, The Daily Buzz and View From the Bay.
- When the going gets tough, I: “Rant like a mad woman to my business partner then brainstorm a solution.”
- The most daring thing I’ve ever done: “Recently I was talked into wearing a sea foam green tuxedo from the 70’s for a publicity shot.”
- Little known fact: “I still daydream about being a professional dancer on Broadway.”
